What Should Be in Your Life File?

Here’s a concise guide to building a comprehensive Life File:
  • Personal Information
    • Full name, date of birth, ID number, tax number and contact details.
    • Copies of driver’s license, ID Document, passport, and marriage/divorce certificates.
    • List of trusted contacts (family, lawyer, financial advisor) with their contact info.
  • Financial Records
    • Bank and investment account details (account numbers, institutions, login instructions).
    • Insurance policies (life, health, home, car) with policy numbers and agent contacts.
    • Retirement fund, including personal and workplace pension/provident funds and RAs.
    • List of recurring bills and debit orders.
    • Tax returns if applicable (recent 2–3 years).
  • Legal Documents
    • Will, trust documents, and powers of attorney (financial and healthcare).
    • Advance healthcare directives or living will.
    • Deeds to property and vehicle ownership papers.
  • Digital Assets
    • List of online accounts (email, social media, subscriptions) with usernames and password instructions.
    • Instructions for accessing digital wallets or cryptocurrency accounts.
    • Note: Use a secure password manager or encrypted document for sensitive logins.
  • Personal Wishes
